Ever since I left my job in February I had been thinking of ways to cut back on expenses. I knew that was part of the deal, cutting costs. When I started working again, part-time, I had a great idea. The idea was for my husband and I to switch cars. He drives an SUV and I drive a smaller crossover car. My thought was that he had to drive a longer distance to work and put a higher grade of gas in his tank. Where as, I only had to drive less than 3 miles including dropping off my son at day care and my car took a lower grade of gas. So, I said why don’t we switch and save some money that way. Suprisingly, he agreed:) Since I have the boys it just make more sense for me to have the bigger car anyway, right?!
So, let’s see the savings!
To fill up my car is approx. $50. My car gets about 20 miles per gallon.
To fill up his car is approx. $75. His car gets about 16 miles per gallon.
By me taking the bigger car that uses more expensive gas is now saving us approx. $75-$100 per month. Talk about savings! When I was working full-time this wasn’t an option as we both drove for our jobs and were both all over the place. Working closer to home has now made this option possible. Have you ever thought of this to save money on the rising costs of gas?
