Today I was at a retreat for work and we had the health department present to us about Health and Wellness. We had to do this excercise where we fill in a Health and Wellness Wheel. Well to my suprise (sarcasm) 2 of the areas where I could make improvement for my overall health was Stress and Sleep. Stress being what I have too much of and Sleep being what I do not get.
As far as stress is concerned, I do not think you can escape it. Being a mother comes with the disclaimer of Stress…it should be expected. Not all stress if bad for you though. I know my kids can stress me the heck out but then turn around and brighten up my day. I think it all boils down to how we deal with it and I guess that is what I need to work on, how to cope, because it is not going away. Because if I don’t feel stressed at home, I know I definitely will when I walk into my office!
Then we have Sleep. How many mothers out there get enough sleep? I believe the recommended amount of sleep is 7-8 hours a night. Well, on average, I get about 5 hours of sleep.. Yeah just 5. After the kids go to bed, is the only time I really get to myself and most times I get caught up on the computer, cleaning the house or talking on the phone. I have also heard in presentations that sleep is important in warding off disease and sickness.
I enjoyed the presentation today and think I need to set a curfew for myself so I can get some sleep! I think once I get the sleep down, then everything else will fall into place!
